GTT bags services contract from Maran Tankers for LNG-powered vessels

French LNG containment firm GTT has secured a technical services contract from Maran Tankers Management, the oil tanker unit of Greece’s Angelicoussis, for the latter's LNG dual-fuel Sueznamax vessels.

Last year, Maran Tankers ordered eight LNG dual-fuel vessels at China’s New Times.

Although the future Suezmax vessels will not be equipped with GTT systems, Maran Tankers has chosen to collaborate with GTT due to its expertise in the performance and safety of LNG dual-fuel vessels, according to GTT.

The contract involves GTT assisting Maran Tankers in independently reviewing the fuel gas supply system (FGSS).

Also, it includes a thorough review of key documents and participation in the risk assessment process.

GTT’s involvement will primarily focus on the engine supply system via fuel pumps and compressors, as well as boil-off Gas (BOG) management via compressors and sub-coolers.

The French firm did not provide the contract price.

In April 2023, Maran Tankers ordered four LNG dual-fuel Suezmax tankers with an option for four additional vessels.

After that, Maran Tanker exercised its option for four more vessels in August of the same year.

Maran Tankers expects to take delivery of the first four ships between June and November 2026 and the other four ships between January and May 2027.

Each ship is said to be worth about $87 million.

Last year, Maran Tankers took delivery of its first four LNG dual-fuel very large crude carriers from South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries.

In January, Maran Tankers took delivery of the LNG-powered VLCC, Antonis I. Angelicoussis, the second vessel, Maria A. Angelicoussis, in February, and the third vessel, Maran Danae, joined the fleet in April.

The latest vessel, Maran Dione, joined the company’s fleet in July 2023.

Maran Tankers currently operates 54 vessels, and it has eleven tankers on order, its website shows.
