GTT clinches tank gig from Hanwha Ocean

French LNG containment giant GTT has secured a new tank design order from South Korean shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean during the third quarter.

GTT will design tanks of two 170,000-cbm LNG carriers, which will be built on behalf of Hanwha Shipping, a US-based unit of Hanwha Ocean.

According to GTT, the tanks will be fitted with its NO96 L03 membrane containment system.

With this new contract, GTT continues to “contribute to the expansion of the North American LNG value chain, supporting its shipyard partners and shipowners,” it said.

Delivery of the vessels is scheduled in the first quarter of 2028.

Hwnaha Ocean recently signed a contract with its US affiliate Hanwha Philly Shipyard to build a second LNG carrier for Hanwha Shipping.

While most of the LNG carrier construction will take place at Hanwha Ocean’s Geoje yard, Hanwha Philly Shipyard will support the certification process required by the US Coast Guard (USCG) to meet statutory and safety standards.

GTT received orders for ten LNG carriers and seven very-large ethane carriers in the first half, while its revenue rose 32 percent compared to the same period last year.

The LNG containment specialist also received orders for 18 LNG-powered container vessels during the period.
