Nordsol in bio-LNG production milestone

Nordsol said that the three operational bio-LNG plants in the Netherlands and the UK, which utilize its technology, have collectively surpassed the 10,000-ton mark in bio-LNG production.

The Dutch tech firm announced in a social media post that the milestone was achieved this week.

The three plans include the bio-LNG plant in Amsterdam Westpoort, the first European plant using Nordsol tech, the bio-LNG plant in Wilp, and the RenEco Rushden facility in the UK.

Nordsol’s partners include Attero, Renewi, Shell, and RenEco.

The company claims that 10,000 tons of bio-LNG equals “28 million kilometres of carbon-neutral heavy-duty transport” and “CO₂ savings equivalent to the annual absorption of 1 million trees.”

In addition to these plants, Nordsol continues to expand its bio-LNG business.

This includes new projects underway in Portugal, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Germany, according to the firm.

Last year, Nordsol and Attero launched the bio-LNG plant in Wilp.

Attero processes domestic biowaste into 6 million Nm3 of biogas per year, while Nordsol and Attero jointly produce 2,400 tons/year of bio-LNG and 5,000 tons/year liquid bio-CO2 from this biogas using Nordsol’s patented iLNG technology.

Also, Titan, the exclusive long-term off-taker, supplies the bio-LNG to the maritime industry.

This facility is not the first bio-LNG facility in the Netherlands as Nordsol operates the bio-LNG plant in Amsterdam Westpoort, which was launched in 2021.

However, it is the first bio-LNG plant for shipping as the Amsterdam Westpoort facility provides fuel for the transport sector.
