Poland’s PGNiG in Lithuanian LNG trucking milestone

Poland’s dominant gas firm and LNG importer PGNiG said it has loaded the 300th truck at the small-scale reloading station in the Lithuanian port of Klaipeda.

PGNiG said Tuesday this also marked the 1000th truck LNG loading for the facility which started operations back in 2017. The firm is the only user of the Klaipedos Nafta facility as of April last year.

The “milestone” truck delivery is on its way to a Polish regasification station in Ełk, a town in the north-eastern part of the country, it said.

According to PGNiG, most of the trucked LNG lands in Poland, about 76 percent of these deliveries, but also in other Baltic states.

In Poland, the trucked LNG goes to off-grid locations, as well as a network of refueling stations developed for heavy-duty road transport as the country looks to meet its decarbonisation targets, PGNiG said.

About 16 percent of the total trucked volumes ended up in Lithuania for regasification stations in Druskininkai and Viečiūnai, while the rest landed in Latvia and Estonia, it said.

In total, 16 different companies, including PGNiG’s subsidiary PGNiG Obrot Detaliczny, have used the Klaipeda LNG reloading station up to date, the firm added.
