SIAD clinches contract for Qatari LNG expansion project

A unit of Italian chemical group SIAD has secured a contract to supply equipment for the giant Qatari LNG expansion project in Ras Laffan.

SIAD Macchine Impianti (SIAD MI) said in a statement it would supply four air separation units of the GNT 4750 type, designed to produce high purity nitrogen through cryogenic air separation.

These units will be complemented by two auxiliary storage and vaporization systems.

SIAD MI expects to deliver the equipment by September 2023, while the company’s engineers will also supervise the installation procedures.

It did not provide the price tag of the deal.

The contract is part of QatarEnergy’s $28.75 billion North Field East project which includes building four mega trains with a capacity of 8 mtpa in the Ras Laffan complex.

A joint venture consisting of Technip Energies and Chiyoda won the key onshore engineering, procurement and construction contract from state-owned LNG giant QatarEnergy and its unit Qatargas in February last year.

Their joint venture CTJV recently celebrated a milestone as it continues to progress work on the project in order to start production in 2025.

This first phase of the expansion project will increase Qatar’s LNG production capacity from 77 to 110 mtpa, while the second phase will further boost capacity to total 126 mtpa.

Qatargas currently operates in total fourteen LNG trains at Ras Laffan.
