Last Friday, St1 Biokraft sent off its first LBG or bio-LNG delivery from the plant in Grimhult, Monsteras, the company announced in a social media post on Tuesday.
St1 Biokraft noted that the plant is still in the start-up phase and the company expects to increase capacity gradually during the coming autumn.
The firm did not provide further details.
In January 2023, St1 Biokraft, then known as Scandinavian Biogas, announced that it had decided to build a new bio-LNG plant in Monsteras, Sweden.
Finland’s Wartsila won a contract to supply its biogas liquefaction technology for the bio-LNG plant in Monsteras.
St1 Biokraft estimates that the total cost for the project is 600 million Swedish Krona ($64 million).
The company said on its webiste that Monsteras is a “fantastic” location for this type of project, with ample availability of substrate combined with strong local support and committed partners.
The intended customers include major fuel station companies, industrial and maritime actors, as well as larger European energy companies.
The biogas plant will convert manure from cattle, pig, chicken, and egg production in the area into bio-LNG and various types of refined biogas digestate.
It is designed for an annual production of 125 GWh of biogas and approximately 250,000 tons of high-quality biogas digestate in different fractions, both in liquid and solid forms.
