TT-Line books LNG-powered ferry in China

German ferry operator TT-Line has ordered another LNG-powered RoPax ferry from China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Nanjing.

TT-Line announced the contract in a statement on Sunday but did not disclose the price.

The new vessel will be approximately 240 meters long and designed to accommodate around 1,000 passengers.

Building on the success of TT-Line’s LNG-powered ferries Nils Holgersson and Peter Pan, which were delivered in 2022 and 2023, this new vessel will also feature an advanced LNG-hybrid propulsion system, the firm said.

The project is part of TT-Line’s long-standing cooperation with China Merchants Jinling Shipyard, which began in 2018.

“The proven reliability of Nils Holgersson and Peter Pan on TT-Line’s routes between Germany, Poland, Lithuania, and Sweden provides a strong foundation for this next step,” the company said.

The new vessel will incorporate technical upgrades and optimized design to increase operational and environmental efficiency.

„Extending TT-Line`s existing zero emission bio-LNG capabilities with further adding on a zero-emission shore power-fed battery component underlines TT-Line ‘s ambition to remain the forefront of sustainable zero emission technologies,“ said Andreas Schärli, COO at TT-Line.
