UK’s AD Fuels gets LNG-powered trucks

AD Fuels will now transport liquefied natural gas to customer sites across the UK with LNG-powered trucks.

The Worthing-based firm has taken delivery of four new Volvo LNG-powered tractor units due to the “surge in demand” for transporting LNG, Volvo Trucks UK, a unit of Sweden’s Volvo, said in a statement.

“Demand for LNG is growing exponentially, and we felt now was the perfect opportunity to introduce these trucks into our own operation,” Jon Mayes, director at AD Fuels, said in the statement.

“We’ve seen at first-hand the benefits LNG brings to fleets; and just like them, we wanted to take advantage of running on a cleaner and cheaper fuel too,” he said.

Furthermore, AD Fuels expects the trucks to cover around 160,000 km per year. The vehicles will transport LNG from National Grid’s Isle of Grain import terminal to a “growing list” of customer sites across the UK.

By the end of 2021, the company aims to have 13 dedicated LNG tankers on the road, alongside moving floor trailers and CNG tankers.
