Altera welcomes sixth LNG-fueled shuttle tanker

Altera Infrastructure has recently taken delivery of the sixth and last LNG-powered shuttle tanker from South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries.

The Aberdeen-based shipping firm, previously known as Teekay Offshore, said on Monday the vessel’s crew was preparing for sail away from the Korean yard.

To remind, LNG Prime reported on this delivery in early February after the firm announced its quarterly results.

The 103,000 dwt Altera Wind joins other Altera’s LNG-powered tankers already in operation.

This newbuild follows delivery of its fifth LNG-powered vessel Altera Wave in early January.

The shuttle tanker newbuilding has arrived in Norway to start work for Equinor, its AIS data shows. Altera Wave adds to the other four Altera’s LNG-powered vessels already working in the North Sea.

The E-Shuttle tankers operate on LNG as the primary fuel but they will also use a mixture of LNG and recovered volatile organic compounds as secondary fuel.

In addition, the vessels also feature battery packs for flexible power distribution and blackout prevention.
