Calcasieu Pass LNG project gets 1st liquefaction equipment

Venture Global LNG’s Calcasieu Pass project is pushing forward with construction and it received last week the first liquefaction equipment at its site in Cameron Parish, Louisiana.

Venture Global started setting in place two Chart-supplied brazed aluminum heat exchangers, also known as cold boxes, on Thursday.

The cold boxes are the first of eighteen that will be part of the Calcasieu Pass liquefaction process system.

Chart delivered the cold boxes more than four months ahead of schedule and ten months after the project’s FID, according to Venture Global.

The firm says the installation of the first modules is an “important milestone” for the project consisting of 18 mid-scale liquefaction trains.

Baker Hughes build the trains in its factory in Italy and ships them to the US.

The Calcasieu Pass plant, with a price tag of about $4.5 billion, will have a capacity of 10 million tonnes per year.

Venture Global plans to launch the facility in the autumn of 2022.

Besides this project, the US company is also developing the 20 MTPA Plaquemines liquefaction plant and the 20 MTPA Delta LNG project, both located in Louisiana.
