US LNG exports dropped in the week ending March 9, while the Henry Hub spot price also logged a decrease when compared to the week before, according to the Energy Information Administration.
The agency said in its weekly natural gas report that the US has exported 23 LNG shipments between March 3 and March 9, down by one shipment when compared to the week before.
Natural gas deliveries to LNG export facilities averaged 12.8 Bcf/d, or 0.5 Bcf/d higher than last week.
Seven large US terminals exported the 23 cargoes during the week under review, as Venture Global LNG shipped the second commissioning cargo from its Calcasieu Pass plant in Louisiana.
The total capacity of LNG vessels carrying these 23 cargoes is 85 Bcf.
Besides Calcasieu Pass, Cheniere’s Sabine Pass plant dispatched eight cargoes while its Corpus Christi plant sent three shipments. The Freeport terminal sent five shipments, Cameron four, while Cove Point dispatched two cargoes.
Henry Hub spot drops to $4.56/MMBtu
This report week, the Henry Hub spot price fell from $4.65/MMBtu last Wednesday to $4.56/MMBtu this Wednesday.
Temperatures along the Gulf Coast of Texas were warmer than normal this report week.
In Houston, Texas, the average temperature was 62°F, almost 14°F higher than last week, EIA said.
Feedgas deliveries to LNG export terminals in South Texas decreased 4 percent to 4.2 Bcf/d, and feedgas deliveries to LNG terminals in South Louisiana increased by 9 percent to 7.4 Bcf/d, according to data from PointLogic.
Weekly natural gas deliveries to the Calcasieu Pass terminal averaged slightly more than 0.5 Bcf/d this week according to TransCameron, the operator of the pipeline delivering natural gas to Calcasieu Pass.
TTF surges
According to the agency, international natural gas prices rose this report week amid the Russia-Ukraine crisis and increased uncertainty in European natural gas markets.
Bloomberg Finance reported that swap prices for LNG cargoes in East Asia for the balance of March rose $12.65/MMBtu to a weekly average of $40.41/MMBtu.
At the Dutch TTF, the day-ahead prices rose $18.71 to a weekly average of $59.76/MMBtu, EIA said.
In the same week last year (week ending March 10, 2021), prices in East Asia and at TTF were $5.99/MMBtu and $5.93/MMBtu, respectively, the agency said.
