DSME gets ABS approval for FLNG design, floating power plant

Classification society ABS has issued approval in principle to Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering’s two designs.

The first is a wide breadth, single row, near-shore floating LNG producer hull with a jetty-moored system.

This AiP marked the completion of a joint development project between the duo.

The 64m wide barge-shaped hull features a GTT NO96 single row containment system with a storage capacity of 209,000 cbm.

It accommodates a jetty-moored system and approximately 40,000-metric tons of topside modules, which may produce 3.0-3.5 mtpa of LNG.

Floating LNG power plant

In addition, ABS has granted AiP to DSME for a floating storage power plant LNG cargo handling system.

The South Korean yard designed the system as an all-in-one energy supply facility. This means that it can receive, store and regasify LNG, but also generate and supply electricity.

DSME’s 200MW design includes floating structures with a length of 161m, width of 60m and height of 33m.

The new desing can directly supply natural gas of about 200 million cubic feet per day to an on land facility after storage and regasification.

DSME sees the facility utilized in countries lacking energy supply infrastructure and to support occasions where energy supplies are concentrated at certain times.

These include the Olympic Games, international fairs and natural disasters, where demand peaks.
