Oslo-based BW LNG, a unit of Singapore’s gas shipping giant BW, has acquired two TFDE LNG carriers from Swedish shipping firm Stena Bulk.
The 174,000-cbm LNG carriers are the Singapore-flagged BW ENN Crystal Sky, formerly Stena Crystal Sky, and BW Clear Sky, formerly Stena Clear Sky, according to a statement by BW LNG.
Both of the tri-fuel diesel electric (TFDE) propulsion vessels were built in 2011 at Hanwha Ocean, previously known as DSME, South Korea.
BW LNG did not reveal the price tag of the deal.
It said the two vessels will be delivered straight into their ongoing charters.
VesselsValue data suggests the vessels are each worth about $140 million.
BW ENN Crystal Sky is on charter to China’s ENN while BW Clear Sky serves France’s TotalEnergies, the data shows.
Stena entered the LNG market in May 2011 buying three LNG carriers from TMT Taiwan. Following the sale of these vessels, Stena only has the 2006-built LNG carrier, Blue Sky.
BW LNG said the sister LNG carriers represent “excellent versatility and capability for trading, in addition to potential conversion into floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) in the future.”
This acquisition boosts BW LNG’s owned fleet to 34 vessels, including four FSRUs and four newbuildings under construction.
