Hudong wrapping up works on new CMA CGM’s LNG giant

China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s Hudong-Zhonghua is finalizing works on another ultra-large LNG-powered containership the yard builds for French shipping group CMA CGM.

Hudong says the 23,000 TEU CMA CGM Concorde returned to its Shanghai Jiangnan-Changxing Shipyard on January 31 following the completion of its sea trials.

In addition, the Chinese yard said the vessel completed the trials in record six days. The vessel still needs to wrap up gas trials ahead of its planned delivery in April.

This is the fourth out of five vessels Hudong is building for CMA CGM while CSSC’s Jiangnan Shipyard is constructing four ULCVs in this batch of nine world’s largest LNG-powered vessels.

Prior to the delivery of this vessel, Jiangnan should deliver CMA CGM Montmartre in March.

CMA CGM in total took delivery of five of these ships – three from Hudong and two from Jiangnan.

The ships feature WinGD’s dual-fuel engines and GTT’s 18,600-cbm fuel tank, both largest ever built.

Moreover, all of the ships will be 400 meters long and 61 meters wide and CMA CGM will deploy them on the Europe-Asia route.
