AET, a unit of Malaysia’s MISC, has placed an order for two LNG dual-fuel Suezmax tankers at South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries.
The owner of crude and product tankers announced the shipbuilding deals in a statement on Friday.
However, AET did not provide the pricing details or the delivery dates.
AET said each vessel will feature the Everllence 6G70ME-C10.5-GI main engine, designed for fuel efficiency and to minimize methane slip.
The vessels will further expand AET’s growing dual-fuel fleet operating worldwide.
With these orders, AET will have dual-fuel capability in all the tanker sectors it operates in – Aframaxes, shuttle tankers, Suezmaxes, and very large crude carriers (VLCCs).
According to AET, it currently operates 11 LNG dual-fuel vessels, out of which nine are owned and two are chartered, and has two newbuilds chartered with Singfar.
AET said the addition of these two newbuilds will bring the total to 15 LNG dual-fuel vessels in its fleet with a further three ammonia dual-fuel newbuilds underway.
