Wartsila bags maintenance gig for MOL’s LNG carriers

Finnish tech firm Wartsila has signed a ten-year lifecycle agreement with a unit of Japan’s shipping giant MOL, covering 12 LNG carriers.

Wartsila said on Thursday that the agreement with Singapore-based MOL Global Ship Management is designed to deliver operational support with reduced engine downtime and increased maintenance flexibility for the 12 LNG carriers.

The agreement for three of the vessels was booked by Wartsila in the third quarter of 2025, with the remaining vessels booked in the first half of 2025.

Wartsila did not provide the contract pricing details.

According to Wartsila, the scope of the agreement includes its dynamic maintenance planning solution and its expert insight predictive maintenance solution.

Wartsila noted that MOL is its long-standing strategic customer and various ships in their fleet are supported with Wartsila agreements.

The 12 vessels are new LNG carriers that were delivered during 2024 and 2025.

They each operate with two 6-cyclinder and two 8-cylinder Wartsila 34DF dual-fuel engines and four Wartsila gas valve units (GVU).

MOL’s large fleet of LNG tankers had 105 vessels as of the end of September last year.

The fleet includes LNG carriers owned and/or operated by joint venture companies.
