South Korea’s Sinokor reportedly sold the 138,000-cbm LNG carrier, previously known as Northwest Swan, on an ‘as is’ basis in Malaysia’s Linggi.
The vessel has been idled there for a long time, according to VesselValue data.
Moreover, the price is reported at 513 per ldt, or approximately $16 million.
The vessel is expected to be towed to Bangladesh.
VesselValue data shows that Sinocor purchased this vessel in 2018 for approximately $41 million from North West Shelf Shipping.
The vessel served the Woodside-operated NWS LNG project in Australia for most of its operational life.
Besides this vessel, Sinokor also sold its 1979-built LNG carrier, Coral Energy, for demolition in 2024.
Last year, at least 15 steam LNG carriers were reported sold for demolition, marking a new record.
This compares to eight vessels in 2024.
This year could break another record in the sale of steam LNG carriers for demolition.
Borkers reported at least five demolition sales this year.
Last month, brokers said Malaysia’s MISC sold the 2004-built 137,500-cbm, Puteri Zamrud Satu, the 2004-built 137,500-cbm, Puteri Firus Satu, and the 2005-built 137,500-cbm, Puteri Mutiara Satu.
Seapeak sold its 135,423-cbm Seapeak Mars, previously known as Seapak Madrid, in March this year.
