Baker Hughes clinches Port Arthur LNG gig

US energy services firm Baker Hughes has won a contract from Bechtel to supply two liquefaction trains for the first phase of Sempra’s Port Arthur LNG export project in Texas.

LNG player Sempra Infrastructure, a unit of Sempra, took a final investment decision on March 20 for the first phase of its Port Arthur LNG export project worth about $13 billion.

Bechtel won the EPC contract which includes building two trains with a total capacity of about 13 million tonnes per annum and two storage tanks with a capacity of 160,000 cbm.

Following the final decision, the US contractor now awarded a deal to Baker Hughes to supply four Frame 7 turbines paired with eight centrifugal compressors across two LNG trains.

In addition, Baker Hughes will supply two electric motor driven compressors for the plant’s boosting services, the firm said in a statement issued on Monday.

Baker Hughes did not provide the price tag of the deal.

The firm said that packaging of the turbine/compressor train, as well as manufacturing of the compressors and testing of the trains, will take place at its facilities in Italy.

The expected commercial operation dates for Port Arthur LNG Phase 1 Train 1 and Train 2 are 2027 and 2028, respectively.

Baker Hughes booked almost $3.5 billion in LNG equipment orders in 2022, its highest ever.

These contracts include deals from Venture Global LNG for the Plaquemines LNG project in Louisiana, as well as service deals for the Calcasieu Pass LNG facility.
