Sempra’s Cameron LNG gets new president

Cameron LNG, the operator of the 12 mtpa liquefaction and export facility in Louisiana, said it has appointed Whitney “Whit” Fairbanks as its new president.

The appointment of Fairbanks comes after CEO Farhad Ahrabi had decided to retire last year. He has led the LNG terminal operator controlled by US firm Sempra for about seven years.

Cameron LNG said in a statement released last week that Fairbanks had spent over a decade at Texas-based Hunt Oil, where he managed Hunt LNG Operating Company, the operator of the 4.4 mtpa Peru LNG export plant.

“Whit’s deep strategic, operational and commercial experience in the LNG industry including the successful leadership of complex joint venture companies will be an asset to Cameron LNG as we continue the safe and reliable operations of this world-class facility and advance the development of the expansion project,” said Lisa Glatch, chair of the board for Cameron LNG.

Cameron LNG reached full commercial operations of the first phase with three trains in August 2020.

Sempra and partners are also working on expanding the facility with the fourth 6.75 mtpa train.

To date, the facility has exported more than 351 cargoes of US LNG to 29 countries worldwide, according to Cameron LNG.

Sempra indirectly holds 50.2 percent in Cameron LNG while other project participants include affiliates of TotalEnergies, Mitsui & Co, and Japan LNG Investment, a company held by Mitsubishi Corp and NYK.
