ABB to power Singapore’s first FSRU

South Korean shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean has awarded Swiss engineering group ABB a contract to supply a complete electric power and propulsion system for Singapore’s first FSRU.

ABB’s integrated electrical system on board the FSRU will comprise a medium voltage generator, 6.6kV switchboards for cargo and regasification, and the motor, transformer, and drive for propulsion.

According to ABB, the FSRU will also feature its remote control and remote diagnostics system, condition monitoring solution, and an enhanced power protection system.

ABB did not provide the pricing detaisl of the contract.

Last year, Singapore LNG, the state-owned operator of the country’s first LNG import terminal on Jurong Island, signed a deal with Japan’s MOL to charter the 200,000-cbm FSRU for Singapore’s second LNG terminal.

LNG Prime reported on October 2, 2025, that MOL and Singapore LNG were behind an order for one 200,000-cbm FSRU at Hanwha Ocean.

The contract is worth about $413 million, the highest price ever for a single FSRU.

Hanwha Ocean will deliver the FSRU by October 2027.

The FSRU will be moored at Jurong Port and connected to the gas network in 2030, under the management of MOL.

Singapore LNG has signed contracts to process five million tons of LNG per annum at the FSRU-based facility, adding flexibility and increasing Singapore’s LNG importing capacity by 50 percent compared to the current single land terminal in Jurong.
