SLNG announced the signing of the terminal use agreement for storage and reloading services with Jiaxing Gas Group (Singapore) in a social media post on Tuesday.
The operator of Singapore’s first operational LNG terminal and the upcoming FSRU-based facility on Jurong Island did not provide further details regarding the agreement.
SLNG said that the agreement was signed during a visit by Sun Lian Qing, chairman of Jiaxing Gas Group (Singapore), and his team to SLNG’s office.
Before this, SLNG’s team visited Jiaxing’s LNG terminal in China in May.
Launched in 2022, Jiaxing Gas operates the 1 mtpa LNG terminal in Zhejiang province in a joint venture with Hangzhou Gas.
In 2023, Singapore’s Pavilion Energy, now part of Shell, shipped the first small-scale LNG cargo from SLNG’s terminal to the Jiaxing LNG terminal as part of a supply deal it signed with Zhejiang Hangjiaxin Clean Energy.
Jiaxing Gas Group (Singapore) said in a separate social media post last week that the signing of the agreement with SLNG represents an “important milestone in the continued development of its LNG platform in Singapore.”
Beyond the signing of the agreement, both parties also discussed areas of future collaboration, including operational experience sharing, mutual learning, and the continued development of safe, reliable, and flexible LNG infrastructure solutions, it said.
“We look forward to continuing our engagement with SLNG and contributing to the development of Singapore’s role as a key LNG hub in the region,” it said.
Two LNG terminals
Singapore’s first LNG terminal on Jurong Island began commercial operations in May 2013.
It currently operates with two jetties, three storage tanks of 180,000 cbm each, a fourth storage tank of 260,000 cbm, and a peak sendout capacity of around 11 mtpa.
In addition, South Korean shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean laid the keel in May for MOL’s floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), which will serve Singapore’s second LNG import terminal.
SLNG will charter the 204,000-cbm FSRU (Hull No. 2597) under a deal it signed with Japan’s MOL in October 2024.
With a regasification capacity of 5 mtpa, it will be moored at Jurong Port and connected to the gas network in 2030.
