China Merchants yard secures order for large LNG bunkering vessel

China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) has secured an order from Seacon Shipping and CM Energy Tech to build one large LNG bunkering vessel.

CM Energy Tech, part of China Merchants Group, announced the signing of the shipbuilding agreement in a statement on Tuesday.

The deal includes one firm and one optional 20,000-cbm LNG carrier, according to the CM Energy Tech.

CM Energy Tech said the 20,000-cbm LNG bunkering vessel will feature type C tanks and a bunkering rate of up to 2,000 cubic meters per hour.

The vessel is equipped with a Wartsila dual-fuel engine, it said.

It is scheduled for delivery in 2028.

CM Energy Tech did not reveal the pricing details.

Last year, Denmark’s Celsius Tankers, a unit of Celsius Shipping, and Hong Kong-based Caravel Group formed a joint venture and ordered two 20,000-cbm LNG bunkering vessels at China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu).

The deliveries of these LNG bunkering vessels are scheduled for the third and fourth quarters of 2027.

China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) in Haimen is already building six 180,000-cbm LNG carriers for Celsius Tankers, and it delivered the first vessel in April this year.

This is the first LNG carrier delivery for the Chinese shipbuilder and also the first Chinese-built LNG carrier for Celsius.
