GTT clinches tank gig for Sonangol’s LNG carrier

France’s GTT has secured a new tank design order from HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering for Sonangol’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier.

GTT announced on Thursday that it received the order in the first quarter of 2026.

According to the LNG tank specialists, HD Hyundai Samho will build the LNG carrier for Angola’s state-owned energy firm Sonangol.

The vessel’s cryogenic tanks, with a total capacity of 174,000 cbm, will be fitted with GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

Delivery of the vessel is scheduled for the second quarter of 2028.

HD Hyundai Samho’s parent HD KSOE announced on February 2 that the shipbuilder will build one LNG carrier for Sonangol Shipping Holding.

HD KSOE said the contract is worth 357.5 billion won ($251 million).

GTT announced several LNG carrier orders since the beginning of this year.

According to GTT’s new chief executive Francois Michel, the company will revise its estimate of more than 450 orders for large LNG carriers over the next ten years due to increased demand for newbuilds

He sees the number of LNG carriers “significantly upward versus 450.”

GTT received orders for 37 LNG carriers, seven very large ethane carriers, and one FLNG in 2025, while its revenue rose 25 percent compared to the year before.
