GTT confirms Hudong-Zhonghua contract for six LNG carriers

France’s GTT confirmed a tank design order for six 174,000-cbm liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers with Chinese shipbuilder Hudong-Zhonghua.

GTT said in a statement on Thursday the vessels would feature its NO96 Super+ membrane containment system.

This new order adds to the first contract for six vessels won in January, GTT said.

Hudong-Zhonghua will deliver the vessels to an Asian shipowner during the second quarter of 2026 and the second quarter of 2027, the Paris-based firm added.

To remind, Japan’s shipping giant NYK joined forces with China’s CNOOC to order these six 174,000-cbm LNG carriers from CSSC’s Hudong-Zhonghua for about $1.27 billion.

In addition, this project also includes China Merchants Energy Shipping, while CNOOC’s power and gas unit will charter these vessels.

Part of Hudong-Zhonghua’s fifth-generation Changxeng series, the 299 meters long vessels will also feature WinGD’s X-DF dual-fuel engines.
