HD Hyundai Heavy’s parent HD KSOE announced on Thursday that HD Hyundai Heavy will build eight vessels with a capacity of 15,900 teu.
The order is worth 2.4 trillion won. This equals about $1.77 billion or around $221 million per vessel.
HD Hyundai Heavy will deliver the container vessels by November 2028.
HD KSOE said that the vessels will be built for an Asian owner, but it did not provide further details.
LNG Prime was the first to report in May, citing shipbuilding sources, that Ocean Network Express (ONE), a joint venture of Japan’s NYK, MOL, and K Line, was eyeing an order for LNG dual-fuel container vessels.
Sources said at the time that ONE was in discussions with yards for eight LNG dual-fuel container vessels with a capacity of 16,000 teu, with HD Hyundai Heavy tipped to be in the pole position to secure this order.
Earlier this year, French shipping giant CMA CGM ordered 12 LNG dual-fuel containerships with a capacity of 18,000 teu from HD Hyundai Heavy.
This order is worth about 3.72 trillion won. This equals about $2.59 billion or some $216 million per vessel.
HD Hyundai Heavy will deliver these containerships by December 2028.
