China’s state-controlled energy giant Sinopec said it has recently completed its first bunkering operation to a large LNG-powered vessel.
Sinopec Fuel Oil Sales Co, a unit of Sinopec, bunkered more than 250 tons of LNG for the vessel “W0269” in Shandong, the firm said on Monday.
It did not provide any additional information.
The vessel in question is the LNG-powered ferry Salamanca, currently under construction at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Weihai, Shandong.
CMJL launched this LNG-powered ferry in January this year.
This is the second in a batch of three E-Flexer class ships Brittany Ferries chartered from Stena. LNG-fueled Salamanca will join the fleet in 2022 with the third ship Santona following in 2023.
Brittany Ferries and Sweden’s Stena RoRo recently signed a deal for two new LNG-powered ferries, boosting the total to four.
