The spokesperson said that Chevron Australia continues to work to restore production at the Gorgon and Wheatstone gas facilities following production outages caused by severe weather associated with Tropical Cyclone Narelle.
“The safety of our people and the integrity of our assets continue to be our highest priority,” the spokesperson said.
“At the Gorgon gas facility on Barrow Island, all three LNG production trains are operating after the train affected by the severe weather returned to service today (Sunday, March 29),” the spokesperson said.
The Gorgon domestic gas facility has continued to operate at full rates.
However, the Wheatstone LNG facility near Onslow “has had equipment damage from the severe weather, which has impacted restart activities,” the spokesperson said.
“While damage assessments continue at both the onshore Wheatstone plant and offshore Wheatstone platform, it is likely to be a number of weeks before production returns to full rates to allow time for repairs to be safely completed,” the spokesperson said.
“We will continue to update our customers and stakeholders as we progress repair and restart activities,” the spokesperson added.
Last year, the Chevron-operated Wheatstone LNG plant shipped its 1000th cargo of LNG since 2017.
The foundation project consists of two LNG trains with a combined capacity of 8.9 million tonnes per annum (mtpa), and a domestic gas plant.
Launched in 2016, the three-train Gorgon LNG plant has a production capacity of approximately 15.6 mtpa.
Gorgon LNG recently shipped the 2,000th cargo of LNG since March 2016.
