McDermott’s CB&I says Marsa LNG tank gig worth up to $250 million

McDermott’s unit CB&I will build one liquefied natural gas storage tank for the TotalEnergies-led Marsa LNG bunkering project in Oman for up to $250 million.

According to a statement by Houston-based McDermott, the “significant” contract is valued between $100 million and $250 million.

Under the scope of the project, CB&I will provide turnkey EPC services for a 165,000-cbm full containment concrete LNG storage tank and associated piping to grade.

Project delivery will be executed in Oman.

Also, McDermott said work is expected to start with construction activities in the fourth quarter of 2024.

The project is targeted for completion in 2028.

French energy giant TotalEnergies recently took a final investment decision on the Marsa LNG bunkering project with an LNG production capacity of 1 mtpa.

The firm said that the EPC contract was awarded to Technip Energies, and McDermott’s CB&I won the deal for the 165,000 cbm LNG tank, but it did not provide the pricing details.

However, Technip Energies said in a separate statement the “substantial” contract award represents between 500 million euros and 1 billion euros ($537 million – $1.06 billion) of revenue.

The Marsa LNG project is an integrated complex developed by TotalEnergies with a 80 percent share while Oman’s OQ has 20 percent.

The liquefaction plant will be built in the port of Sohar and LNG production is expected to start by the first quarter in 2028, according to TotalEnergies.
