French energy giant TotalEnergies is teaming up with compatriot engineering firm Technip Energies to work on reducing the carbon footprint of LNG production and offshore facilities.
The duo signed a technical cooperation agreement to jointly develop low-carbon solutions in order to accelerate the energy transition, according to a statement by TotalEnergies.
Under the deal, the partners will explore new concepts and technologies as they look to reduce carbon footprint of existing facilities and greenfield projects in key areas.
These areas include LNG production, cryogeny, production and use of hydrogen for power generation, or processes for carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS).
Moreover, the deal also includes the qualification of new architectures and equipment that the duo would develop in these areas.
“For TotalEnergies as a global LNG player, this collaboration brings opportunities to further innovate and strengthen our expertise in reducing GHG emissions, improving energy efficiency for our LNG and offshore assets and developing innovative technologies such as hydrogen,” Arnaud Breuillac, president exploration and production at TotalEnergies, said.
He added the move was in line with the company’s ambition to be carbon-neutral by 2050.
“This agreement reflects our commitment to provide tangible and decarbonized solutions from the earliest concept to delivery and beyond,” Arnaud Pieton, chief executive of Technip Energies, said.
