Wartsila scores Swedish bio-LNG gig

Wartsila Gas Solutions, a unit of Finland’s tech firm Wartsila, has secured a contract to supply a bio-LNG solution to a new biogas plant in Eskilstuna, Sweden.

According to a statement by Wartsila, the contract has been signed by Andion Scandinavia AB.

Andion will act as the main supplier in a design and build contract with the project owner, Eskilstuna Biogas, and will install both the biogas upgrading and liquefaction solutions.

Wartsila noted that Eskilstuna Biogas has started the construction of a 70 GWh or ca. 5.400 ton LBG plant outside Eskilstuna with several partners such as multiple local Eskilstuna farmers, Eskilstuna Energi & Miljo, Klimatklivet, Gotlandsbolaget, Equitix New Generation, a UK-based infrastructure fund, and Andion CH4 Renewables.

The plant will be one of the largest of its kind in the Nordic region and will supply local municipality services and Destination Gotland with bio-LNG, according to Wartsila.

Once operational, the plant will be capable of producing up to 17 tons per day of bio-LNG from organic waste.

Wartsila said it booked the order in the second quarter of this year, but it did not provide the price tag of the contract.

The company’s unit will engineer, manufacture, install, and commission the complete bio-LNG solution to the Eskilstuna Biogas facility, including a 200-cbm storage tank and export station.

The scope also includes potential for future installation of a CO2 liquefaction unit.

Also, the company said that a spare parts package and service agreement will follow.

Earlier this year, Wartsila Gas Solutions secured a contract from Suomen Lantakaasu to supply production solutions for two bio-LNG plants in Finland.

The two projects will each have the capacity to produce 25 tons of bio-LNG per day, and are expected to be in operation by the second half of 2026.
