Poland’s PGNiG marks new Lithuanian LNG truck milestone

Poland’s dominant gas firm and LNG importer PGNiG said it has loaded the 500th truck at the small-scale reloading station in the Lithuanian port of Klaipeda.

PGNiG said Thursday this also marked the 1200th truck LNG loading for the facility which started operations back in 2017.

To remind, PGNiG announced the 300th operation in March this year.

The firm is the only user of the Klaipedos Nafta facility as of April 2020.

Since then, PGNiG has sold more than 9,000 tons of LNG, while in the first half of 2021 alone, sales from Klaipeda amounted to 4,558 tons, according to the Polish firm.

Most of the trucked LNG lands in Poland but also in other Baltic states.

In Poland, the trucked LNG goes to off-grid locations, as well as a growing network of refueling stations developed for heavy-duty road transport as the country looks to meet its decarbonisation targets.

The rest of the volumes end up in Lithuania for two regasification stations, as well as in Latvia and Estonia, PGNiG said in the March statement.

In total, 16 different companies, including PGNiG’s subsidiary PGNiG Obrot Detaliczny, have used the Klaipeda LNG reloading station up to date, the firm said in the previous statement.
