In October 2023, the two firms joined forces to provide LNG as fuel for vessels from the AES-operated Costa Norte LNG terminal in Panama.
The two firms will use the 7,600-cbm LNG bunkering vessel, Seaspan Garibaldi, to fuel LNG-powered ships.
China’s Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering delivered this vessel in August this year.
According to a notice to shipping dated October 28, AES is inviting firms to submit expressions of interest for LNG bunkering services in Panama.
The company is inviting all shipping agents, vessel owners, and operators of LNG-powered vessels transiting the Panama Canal or calling at ports on the Atlantic side of Panama.
The service will be provided by Panam LNG Bunkering, a company of AES Corporation in partnership with Seaspan Energy.
It plans to commence operations in March 2025.
AES said this notice initiates the process for securing LNG bunkering slots through spot contracts for the 2025 calendar year.
It also provides a detailed overview of the service, including defined service area boundaries, eligible vessel types, and key regulatory compliance requirements to support planning for LNG bunkering operations in Panama.
AES said LNG bunkering operations are expected to take place either at a local terminal (SimOps) or at a designated LNG bunkering anchorage specified by the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) or the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP).
