Dutch Titan LNG and Belgium’s Fluxys have taken the delivery of a bunkering barge that will work in the Antwerp port and region.
Fluxys and Titan joined forces in early 2019 to build the FlexFueler 002 and ordered the vessel at Dutch shipbuilder Kooiman Marine.
Furthermore, Titan is currently conducting the last trials for the vessels and finalising crew training.
FlexFueler 002 is the second barge for Titan LNG and identical to FlexFueler 001, which already works in the Netherlands and the region.
The new vessel will make LNG more widely available as alternative shipping fuel from its home location at quay 526/528 as from February 2021, the duo said in a statement.
From the same quay, Fluxys already conducts truck-to-ship bunkering and Titan operates a permanent bunkering point for inland waterway vessels.
Additionally, the new vessel and the other LNG bunkering infrastructure in the port of Antwerp have the benefit of not requiring any investments to offer carbon neutral choices moving forward.
Titan plans to make available liquefied biogas (from organic waste) or liquefied synthetic methane (from green hydrogen and captured CO2) to LNG-powered vessels soon after starting operations in February 2021.
