China’s Hudong-Zhonghua has held a keel-laying ceremony for the second 79,960-cbm LNG carrier the yard is building for Japan’s shipping giant K Line.
The ceremony for the 239 meters long ABS-classed vessel took place on May 13, Hudong said in a statement.
To remind, the yard kicked off the construction on this vessel at the end of the last year.
Prior to that, Hudong also started building the first vessel in this batch of two mid-sized LNG carriers.
K-Line will charter both of the ships to Malaysia’s Petronas for a period of 12 years.
They will transport LNG under a long-term deal the Malaysian firm signed with China’s Shenergy Group.
Furthermore, the Wuhaogou-Max (W-Max) vessels will be optimized for the delivery of LNG cargoes to Shenergy’s Wuhaogou terminal in Shanghai.
With a draft of less then nine meters, the ships are capable of delivering fully laden cargoes within the channel’s permissible limits without exceeding the port’s draught limit.
Both of the LNG carriers will feature WinGD’s dual-fuel X-DF engine and GTT’s NO96 containment system.
Hudong plans to deliver the LNG carriers in the second quarter of 2022.
