Clean Energy Fuels, TotalEnergies start work on Texas RNG facility

US LNG supplier Clean Energy Fuels and its partner TotalEnergies have started building their first joint renewable natural gas facility in Texas.

Clean Energy said in a statement on Thursday it had broken ground on the RNG digester located at Del Rio Dairy in Friona.

This represents the first RNG project for Clean Energy in a joint venture with TotalEnergies to produce the “ultra-clean transportation fuel which will be negative carbon intensive.”

Clean Energy and its largest shareholder TotalEnergues formed the RNG partnership earlier this year.

When completed, the Del Rio Dairy digester project would capture the waste from more than 7,500 milking cows and generate an anticipated 1.1 million gallons of RNG annually, according to Clean Energy.

All the RNG fuel produced at Del Rio Dairy will make its way into Clean Energy’s nationwide network of RNG stations.

The firm delivers RNG through CNG and LNG to its network of about 540 stations across the US but also Canada.

It has a target to provide RNG at all its US stations and for the carbon intensity of the fuel to be zero by 2025.
