Wartsila to upgrade Harvey Gulf’s LNG PSVs

Finland-based Wartsila will supply its energy storage system for four Harvey Gulf’s LNG-powered platform supply vessels.

Louisiana-based Harvey Gulf placed the order with Wartsila in October, the tech firm said in a statement on Monday.

To remind, privately-owned Harvey Gulf has already installed a Wartsila energy system onboard its LNG-powered PSV Harvey Energy.

Following the completion of the upgrade project, all five vessels will be capable of “full tri-fuel operation.”

According to Wartsila, this will provide Harvey Gulf with the “most flexible, fuel efficient class” of PSVs in the Gulf of Mexico.

The four vessels in question are Harvey America, Harvey Liberty, Harvey Power, and Harvey Freedom.

Furthermore, they will each get a Wartsila system comprising a closed bus-tie 1360Kw drive with 746 kWh 1100 VDC batteries.

The retrofitting project will start in 2021 with completion targeted in early 2022.
