Samsung Heavy Industries announced on Friday that it will build an LNG carrier for an unidentified owner in Oceania.
Moreover, the order is valued at 377.9 billion won ($252 million).
The shipbuilder will deliver the LNG carrier by April 2029.
Samsung Heavy did not provide further details regarding the new contract.
Shipbuilding sources said that London-based Purus Marine appears to have returned to Samsung to order another LNG carrier.
In December last year, Purus placed an order for two LNG carriers at the shipbuilder worth $503 million.
Samsung Heavy said in that announcement that it will build the vessels for an unidentified owner in Oceania and deliver them by March 2029.
SHI orders
Including this order, Samsung Heavy has secured $2.4 billion in orders for 12 vessels this year.
This represents 17 percent of its annual order target of $13.9 billion.
Moreover, this is the third LNG carrier order Samsung Heavy announced in 2026.
In January, Samsung Heavy won an order for two LNG carriers from an unidentified owner in Bermuda.
This order is valued at 727.2 billion won ($505 million), or approximtely $252.5 million per vessel, and the shipbuilder will deliver these LNG carriers by January 2029.
Shipbuilding sources told LNG Prime that interests associated with JP Morgan are behind this order.
Samsung Heavy also secured an order last month for one LNG carrier valued at $255 million.
The shipbuilder will deliver this LNG carrier by May 2028.
Sources said that Denmark’s Celsius Tankers, a unit of Celsius Shipping, placed this order.
Last year, Samsung Heavy secured orders for 11 LNG carriers.
