Dutch Titan LNG and Belgium’s Fluxys have put into use a bunkering barge that will work in the Antwerp port and the region.

The duo joined forces in early 2019 to build the FlexFueler 002 and ordered the vessel at Dutch shipbuilder Kooiman Marine.

To remind, Titan said in December the barge was undregoing final trials ahead of its start of operations in the first quarter of this year.

Moreover, the Dutch firm said the partners held a christening ceremony for the vessel this week at its home location in the Port of Antwerp, marking the start of the vessels’ full operations.

The new barge joins FlexFueler 001 and Green Zeebrugge in Titan LNG’s fleet, and aims to “expand the availability of LNG as a marine fuel in the ARA region,” the firm said.

In addition, the new vessel will make LNG more widely available as alternative shipping fuel from its home location at quay 526/528, Titan said.

From the same quay, Fluxys already conducts truck-to-ship bunkering but Titan also operates a permanent bunkering point for inland waterway vessels.
