Germany’s EnviTec buys Uniper’s Liqvis

Germany’s EnviTec Biogas has acquired Uniper’s unit Liqvis, the operator of a network of LNG fueling stations for vehicles in Germany and France.

As of Friday, the former Uniper subsidiary will operate under the umbrella of EnviTec as Liqvis powered by EnviTec Biogas.

EnviTec did not provide further details regarding the acquisition in a statement on Friday.

Founded in 2015, Liqvis operates a total of 18 LNG filling stations in Germany and France at strategic traffic hubs with particularly high truck traffic, according to EnviTec.

With the acquisition of Liqvis, EnviTec is expanding its value chain to include the operation of its own LNG filling stations, Olaf von Lehmden, CEO of EnviTec, said.

Back in 2021, Liqvis joined forces with EnviTec to start offering bio-LNG at its filling stations in Germany.

EnviTec said it plans to utilize Liqvis’ existing LNG filling station infrastructure to exclusively sell bio-LNG, which is produced at its BioEnergie Park Güstrow, among other locations.

Compared to conventional fossil LNG, bio-LNG allows for a “significant” reduction in carbon emissions, the company said.

“With regard to sales volumes, Liqvis is a perfect match for the current production volumes of fuel-grade biomethane, including biomethane from our own plants in Forst, Friedland, and Güstrow among others,” Jörg Fischer, CFO of EnviTec, said.
