Croatian FSRU sets course for Spain’s Sagunto to pick up test cargo

Croatia’s first FSRU is heading to the Enagas-operated Sagunto LNG terminal in Spain to pick up its first cargo for testing purposes.

The FSRU named LNG Croatia, like the state-owned terminal owner, departed the Viktor Lenac yard in Rijeka on Saturday.

It is expected to arrive in Sagunto on November 25 after it will go back to its base on the island of Krk in the northern Adriatic Sea.

As of early December, the vessel will undergo commissioning activities at the LNG Croatia-operated Krk facility followed by the commercial start on January 1, 2021.

To remind, the FSRU departed China’s Huarun Dadong yard in Shanghai on September 22 after the yard and its parent CSSC Hudong-Zhonghua delivered it to Golar LNG.

LNG firm Golar won a deal last year to provide its 2005-built 140,205-cbm vessel Golar Viking to the Krk project and convert it to a FSRU.

After that, the LNG firm tapped Hudong-Zhonghua to perform conversion works and agreed a $160 million sale and leasback deal for the vessel with CSSC Leasing, the leasing unit of China State Shipbuilding Corporation.

The ship arrived at the Huarun Dadong yard in January this year and reached completion some nine months later.

Following a three-week long trip from China, the FSRU arrived in Rijeka about a month ago where it entered the Viktor Lenac yard for final tests.

Once commissioning activities at the Krk facility come to a wrap, Golar will officially hand over the FSRU to LNG Croatia but will continue operating and maintaining the unit for ten years.
